Tourism in Bordeaux
The City of Bordeaux, the 9th largest city in France by population in 2009, is the capital of the Aquitaine region and the Gironde department (33). When we arrive in Bordeaux, we begin to enter the southwest of France.
Bordeaux has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site only in recent years (2007). Distinguished as a city of Art and History, Bordeaux is the city with the largest number of classified historical buildings after Paris. From the Church of Sainte Croix in Bordeaux, classified in 1840, to the traditional Museum of Fine Arts where paintings by the greatest painters such as Rubens, Delacroix, Picasso coexist... the city of Bordeaux is a landmark for all lovers of history and culture.
The "Sleeping Beauty," the city's nickname, might surprise you.
The Vineyard in Bordeaux
It is also thanks to its wines that Bordeaux enjoys worldwide recognition, and one cannot mention the city without thinking of its famous vineyards.
Bordeaux winemakers extend over more than 100,000 hectares and are known for 57 appellations, some of the most prestigious such as the wines of Margaux, Saint Julien, Pomerol, Pauillac, Pessac Léognan, Saint Emilion, Saint Estèphe, or Sauternes.
Several criteria favor good Bordeaux wine, including the Gulf Stream (warm ocean current) and pine forests that protect Bordeaux vineyards from overly strong winds.
Seaside Tourism in Gironde
The city of Bordeaux enjoys its geographical position as it opens up all kinds of horizons for vacationers.
The famous Dune du Pyla, located in La Teste-de-Buch, less than an hour from the Brit Hotel Soretel, the Bassin d'Arcachon less than 40 minutes away, a fascinating opening to the Atlantic Ocean, and a major producer of famous oysters (Europe's largest oyster nursery).
As for the seaside resorts of Médoc, they are also located less than an hour from Bordeaux. The beach of Porge is the closest, but a wave away, the 15 kilometers of the beaches of Lacanau where surf spots are legion should not be missed.
